In the April 9, 2010 edition of ABC News online, Rich Blake quotes Jeff Fouts on the new priority of IRS audits,
“I have seen more audits in the past two years, and it isn’t who you think that’s being singled out. Most people tend to think the IRS goes after the wealthy or famous, but actually quite the opposite is true. It’s the little guy most likely to be audited.”
The article states that the IRS, armed with better computer systems and a new legion of auditors, has made the alleged unpaid tax debt of the self-employed a priority for future audits. As a respected tax attorney, Jeff Fouts has helped many self-employed people with their audits and was an obvious choice to be quoted in the ABC article.
The article is a must read for anyone who is self-employed or makes money on the side of their regular employment.
The article quotes Jeff further in the complete article which can be seen here.
